class work

Recently in class i've been looking at different music videos and songs because my original choices i picked didn't get a good reception from the class.

These were the songs i originally picked but they aren't going to be in my final pick now. 

 I really like this song and the think it could look good but the problem was there wouldn't have been much of a story line and i didn't want to take it to close to the original. 

One thing i might take from the video is the lighting its a lovely blue colour and it goes well with the slow motion which i think works really well especially when fast action is happening. The camera angles work really well and i think i'm going to take all three of these things and use them for my own video. 

I liked this song because i really liked the strong beat that the song had and i thought scene change would work really well. I also thought it had like a strong girl power vibe. 

The problem with this video is that it really leans towards a dance routine and i don't have the expertise or anyone to do a dance. I also thought you could have some really cool outfits and crazy locations. 

The main thing i liked about both of the song is the fun vibe that you get and i defiantly want to pick a fun song or a happy song because personally i think it will work better and be fun to make.

This is my personal opinion of the top famous songs over the years. 

Some of them are songs that i know and love and some are ones where if you didn't know them you would have to be living under a rock. 

Original audience feedback

After getting some audience feedback from my three original possible songs, i decided because there wasn't a massive amount of ideas from anyone and i didn't feel that i could be that creative with any of them, that i would change my song choices. 

There was also a problem because none or i could think a possible location. 

I did find the feedback useful through because it allowed my to defiantly decide that the songs were wrong.

Song Ideas - Chase & Status

This song allows itself to have a really interesting narrative. This music video is taken from the film Harry Brown and doesn't have any of the artist performing in it. 

The narrative is very simple and is all about crime and violence, but its giving it to you from the perspective from the 'bag guy' regretting what he has done. 

The whole thing is set in a sort of grimy area and it doesn't like anyone has that much hope for anything; that is basically what the whole film is about. 

Because a lot of clips from the film have been used in the music video i think you could do something completely different with it, and put a different view across to the audience. But i still think you need to keep it very narrative based, but you could add elements of performance by putting in someone playing the guitar parts and possibly being the lead singer. 

One thing i would take from the music video is the close up and mid shots and i also like how they have then actors performing and then the singer being completely ignored. I would like to take that forward into my own music video because i think it works well to see a clear difference between the 'actors' and the singers. 

Personally i think the lack of special effects adds to this video because it makes you focus on the lyrics and song more, the main one they use is when the singer is levitating which i don't think adds anything to the video and think it can be kept more simplistic. 

Parody's

 I was looking at all different music videos and i thought that it would be interesting to look at parody videos because they usually focus on different mise on scene elements and the outcome is usually something funny not serious. 

You also have different sorts of parodies, some are just copies of songs and some originals. 

This parody by the Midnight Beast and is a parody of Ke$a's Die Young, i find this parody very funny because its completely contradictory and its die old instead. 
They actually use some conventions that common music videos have like for instance the camera shots that have quite a few close up and mid shots which enable you to see the actors expressions and that they are actually singing. 
What is also similar is that editing wise they do both use jump cuts to go between scenes. 
But it is clearly obviously that this is a parody with the men dressed in a wig and they are are completely taking the mick out of the original. 
The parody also has a big amount of props for instances the clown and costumes being extravagant all fit with traditional conventions.
The lighting and colour manipulation isn't quite the same as the original but  think that in the original it is quite extreme and doesn't actually allow you to even see the artist's face very clearly. 
One of the main things i actually really like about the parody and most parodys is the homemade feel they give because i think they end up looking  good and always end up funny, which isn't typical to a normal music video conventions. 

I thought it would be interesting to look at parodies because they aren't usually thought of when it comes to music videos, but they aren't always versions on original songs. 

The midnight Beast have a wide selection of original song and although they aren't the cleanest and are sometimes explicit, from what i have spoken about above they do stick to conventions of typical music videos and follow some of Goodwin theories. 
This mainly happens through a link of lyrics and visuals which helps add to the comedy. 
Another almost constant is voyeurism which happens most of the time when they are singing and are constantly directing any action toward the viewer. 

Preliminary analysis

As a group we decided to give our video an old theme and feel. 

Personally i didn't wat to make it too cheesy because although i know it might have been appropriate in certain videos and in the case of the song we were given, especially because the original video was and felt very homemade and fun. 

From a director point of view i wanted to keep the self-made fun vibe because i thought it allowed people to relate, and to laugh because we were all making fools of ourselves! 

The aim was defiantly to think that the band had made their own video and seeing as the song is all about fun it is emphasising in the performance from the artists. 

The performance on stage was defiantly an important part because it to me needed to feel like a real performance. 

The definite worst part of our video was the green screen while editing we realised exactly how tight you have to have it and that it probably works better against walls. 

If we would of had more time i defiantly would have gone back and re shot it, but there was't time and we needed to include every practical element. 

My favourite  part to the video was the jumping from behind the tree's because i had fun doing and thought it was simple but effective with some editing. 

The whole small task defiantly made me decided to for on my own for the future project.
